This is one of a series of three short books examining specific reading methods in depth. The other books are Choices and Threads. Cross is excellent. We get 15 examples of cross readings – French cross, do and don’t spread, and Celtic Cross – and the author takes us through each one with her usual mix of clarity, insight and occasional humour. I get the impression of every word being carefully considered so none are wasted. If you follow her arguments and lines of reasoning, you’ll learn a lot from this book in a short space of time.
